Martina Hingis,stormed into the second round of the 600,000 dollar Qatar Open with a clinical 6-1, 6-2 victory over American journeywoman Mashona Washington.

"The first game was like a wake-up call," conceded Hingis.

"But I moved her around and she was coming in and my passing shots were working very well," she added.

Hingis, who won the Doha event when it was launched in 2001, said she has to be patient and play a waiting game to reach anywhere near the top. (how mature and smart is that.way to go martina! :king: )
"I have to take it step by step because it's hard work all the way," said the 25-year-old who first became the world's top-ranked player when she was 17, something she is particularly proud off.

"I was the World No 1 when I was 17 and stayed at the top for close to four years," she said, adding: "You are a not a champion for doing nothing. It was not a gift from heaven. I worked hard for it."

i am a big fan of martina.she's such an inspiration.i've been a fan for so long,i grew up watching her playing and luckily i'll get to see her paying again tomorrow(live...yay)

considering that she's back it's usless to start a new thread for each tournament she plays.so it's better to have them all in one thread.

i'm happy i get to see all the matches live! i saw hantuchova today.i guess i'll see martina 2moro. GO MARTINA!!!

also i saw the lovley safin. he was amazing. i love him! he did a great match against his compatriot davidenko.
he was pretty down in the first set but came back and won.

. he's so nice and sweet (and of course one of anna's old/good friends)

Former world number one Martina Hingis powered into the quarter-finals of the $600,000 Qatar Open with a 6-1 6-2 win over third seed Francesca Schiavone of Italy on Wednesday.

The unseeded Hingis, winner of the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2001, now meets former U.S. Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova in the last eight.

Wildcard Hingis only returned to the tour at the start of the year after retiring in 2002.

oh what a great match.it's a hard one for hingis.she just won the first set(46 min) 7-6.after saving a few set points,and doing some double faults in the essential moments of the game marti did take the first set.she's such a fighter!
go martina!!!
