Default ...next for Martina is Indian Wells

"We are thrilled that Martina Hingis is coming back to the Pacific Life Open," said tournament chairman Charlie Pasarell. "Her comeback has been impressive and she is quickly returning to her past form as the No. 1 player in the world. Our fans are in for a treat when they watch her play."

Martina Hingis In Pacific Life Open At Indian Wells, California

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi, everybody! Martina plays in the only two-week, non-Grand Slam tournament of both the WTA and ATP Tours, the Pacific Life Open at Indian Wells, California, USA. Kim Cljisters and Roger Federer will both defend their 2005 Womens and Mens Singles Titles respectively, but Martina Hingis's return to the PLO in the Coachella Valley as a Wild Card headlines this tournament.

HINGIS RETURNS TO THE DESERT

The first chance for fans to catch a glimpse of Martina Hingis on American soil will be on the Pacific Life Open, held March 6-19, at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. The five-time Grand Slam champion was awarded a wild card into the tournaments main draw as announced today by tournament director, Steve Simon.

Hingis, who returned to the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour thi year after a three-year hiatis due to injuries, has picked up where she left off reaching the semifinals of the Gold Coast and the Quarterfinals of the Australian Open where she lost to defending Pacific Life Open Champion Kim Clijsters.

A two-time Pacific Life Open Champion, Hingis won the 1998 singles crown at Indian Wells with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Lindsay Davenport. Martina would go on to win the doubles crown with partner ANNA KOURNIKOVA by defeating Mary Joe Fernandez and Jana Novotna 6-2, 6-2. In addition to her two wins, she reached the finals in 2000, losing to Davenport 4-6, 6-0, 6-0, and again in 2002 losing to Daniela Hantuchova 6-3, 6-4.

"Martina's comeback performance has been outstanding and our fans will really enjoy watching the competition and level of play she is bringing back to the game," said Simon. "As a former champion of the Pacific Life Open, we wish her all the best here."

The Pacific Life Open will award a total of 24 wild cards. For the women's event, nine main draws and six qualifying draw entries are provided; on the men's side, the tournament has five main draw and four qualifying drawwild card available. Qualifying wild cards will be announced prior to the draw selection.

Default Hingis figures to draw the most attention

The reason for this is that the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour has mandated that all players be entered in Key Biscayne, but not Indian Wells. Still, Indian Wells headliners include Martina Hingis, Lindsay Davenport, Maria Sharapova and Justine Henin-Hardenne.
Hingis figures to draw the most attention. It was a supreme delight to watch her(that's for sure :thumbsup work her allcourt guile on her way to the Australian Open quarterfinals, then follow it up by reaching the finals in Tokyo, a run highlighted by a 6-3, 6-1 pummeling of Sharapova – the kind of result that pleases anyone with a triple-digit IQ. Now that the buzz of her comeback has worn off, I’m intrigued to see if Hingis has the physical, emotional and mental fortitude to continue training and playing with enterprise rather than the caution she showed in the 1999-2002 period. I hope so.

Maria Sharapova had a nice prediction about Martina: "Martina is not in there yet but I'm sure she will quickly get into the top 10."!
:king:
Go Martina!!! :king:

Default Hingis/Sharapova in Charity Event

Tennis fans can get a sneak preview of Martina Hingis, Maria Sharapova, and the Bryan brothers before the Pacific Life Open, as they will participate in the Centex Destination Properties Desert Smash at the La Quinta Resort and Club Tuesday and Wednesday.
The tennis exhibition is at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday featuring James Blake taking on Mardy Fish.

Also participating in the event is Palm Springs resident Jose Higueras, who coached Michael Chang to the 1989 French Open title. Rancho Mirage resident and doubles legend Mark Woodforde also will provide a clinic for kids.

The event benefits the Tim and Tom Gullikson Foundation, which funds programs that provide support to brain tumor patients and their families.

Tim and Tom Gullikson and their families founded the organization after Tim was diagnosed with brain tumors in 1995. At the time of diagnosis, Tim Gullikson was coach to then-No. 1 ranked Pete Sampras. Tim Gullikson died in 1996.

Default Martina to reach Top 20!

Ranking Points breakdown for this event
Winner - 325
Finalist - 228
Semi-Finalist - 146
Quarter-Finalist - 81

A first round win or a quarter-final will bring her to Top 30.
A Semi-final win see her in Top 25.
A Final will see her in Top20

The current Gap between no: 9 and 10 is 400 ranking points!
The extreme slow down effect of rise in ranking will be hitting her soon due to wide ranking points different for the top 20 players.

Current ranking guranteed her without meeting big name till the 3rd round for French Open.
She need to get to rank 16th as soon as possible to get avoid any big names in the 4th round and extreme high chance of quater-final.
Go Martina!

Default Hingis on Davenport collision course

For her return to American soil, former world number one Martina Hingis faces a potential fourth round battle against second seed Lindsay Davenport in Indian Wells. The draw handed the Swiss wildcard, who has made a stunning comeback this year, seeded 19th for the tournament, a first-round bye.

Twice Hingis and Davenport have met in the final with the Swiss winning in straight sets in 1998 and the American lifting the trophy in 2000 4-6, 6-4, 6-0.

Davenport, a runner-up the last three years in her native California, was seeded second behind 2004 Indian Wells champion Justine Henin-Hardenne of Belgium who will face the winner of the first-round match between Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova and Spaniard Virginia Ruano Pascual
